West End pre-school will be opening from September 2020. We will predominantly be operating in the outdoor environment as guidelines state that being outside reduces the risk of transmitting Covid 19 is reduced.

We are aware that it has been a considerable time since some children have attended pre-school. Staff will be supporting children to resettle back into pre-school, and/or settle in new children as per our ‘Role of the key person and settling in policy’.

Staff will plan activities based on children’s next steps in their development and learning and current interests.  Initially, there will be a focus on the Prime areas of learning, Personal Social and Emotional Development, Physical Development and Communication and Language Development, this is to ensure that we can focus on helping children to feel settled, secure and confident before we move on to other areas of development and learning.

The outdoor environment provides opportunities for the children to learn all about ‘the world around them’ such as Maths, Literacy, Creative arts, and Imagination which can all be delivered outdoors. Therefore, all areas of the Early Years Foundation Curriculum can be covered. As a setting we like to use as many natural materials and resources as possible, especially resources that are open ended and can be used in a variety of ways which helps promote children’s creativity and critical thinking.

West End Pre-school will be taking precautionary measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19 disease in our setting.  We will be following guidelines based on Public Health England and Department for Education guidance for educational settings and their key workers.

We have a ‘system of controls’ and protective measures in place and we will ensure that staff understand how these will be implemented.

We share our ‘system of controls’ and protective measures with parents and carers so they will understand how this impacts them and their responsibilities in supporting it.

We have used the following set of actions to guide our decision making.

System of Controls

This is the set of actions early years settings must take. They are outlined in more detail below.

Prevention:

1) minimise contact with individuals who are unwell by ensuring that those who have coronavirus (COVID-19) symptoms, or who have someone in their household who does, do not attend settings

2) clean hands thoroughly more often than usual

3) ensure good respiratory hygiene by promoting the ‘catch it, bin it, kill it’ approach

4) introduce enhanced cleaning, including cleaning frequently touched surfaces often using standard products, such as detergents and bleach

5) minimise contact between groups where possible

6) where necessary, wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)

Numbers 1 to 4 must be in place in all settings, all the time.

Number 5 must be properly considered, and settings must put in place measures that suit their particular circumstances.

Number 6 applies in all specific circumstances.

Response to any infection:

7) engage with the NHS Test and Trace process

8) manage confirmed cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) amongst the setting community

9) contain any outbreak by following local health protection team advice

10) notify Ofsted

Numbers 7 to 10 must be followed in every case where they are relevant

" I could not have asked or hoped for a better setting and group of people for the girls. You have provided such a positive start for all my children and you should all be incredibly proud of what you do for all the children at the pre-school"

" Thank you for a wonderful 2 years, Ella enjoyed every minute of it"

" Thank you for the love and kindness that you've shown Lucy, her sister is looking forward to starting in September"

"My child has been so happy to come back and has really enjoyed being outside, we felt confident that the procedures in place would keep my child safe"

"My child loves coming to pre-school, he particularly enjoys being out in the garden, he loves the construction areas and using tyres, wooden logs and pallets to construct with"
