My name is Lesley Hicks and I am the manager at West End Pre-school, I have been working here since 2014.
I have been working in the early year’s sector for 22 years. I started as supply staff in a University day nursery and over the years have held many roles, these include, helping to set up a new day nursery in Fairoak, an Early year’s assessor and tutor at a college in Winchester. Prior to joining West End pre-school, I worked as a
Development officer in an advisory compacity, commissioned by the local authority’s Services for young children to support early years’ settings in all aspects of the Early years Foundation stage.
I am passionate about improving the outcomes for children and to be able to give them an early year’s experience that is filled with ‘awe and wonder’ which will hopefully help them to have a zest for learning more and set them on the road to lifelong learning.

About Us
I aspire to instil my passion into my team and together make changes to enhance our quality of practice and in particular develop our outdoor play and experiences. The pre-school has been a part of the local community of West End for over 30 years, we benefit from having sole use of the building and outdoor space every day. This enables us to provide a safe and nurturing environment, and allows our children to gain a sense of belonging and ownership of their pre-school, and to be able to build a strong bond with the staff team and form friendships with their peers.
All of the activities we do are founded on the Early Year’s Foundation Stage which focus on:
